39--MODELING MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES FOR RAPID PROTOTYPING MACHINE

NASA/LaRC has a requirement for modeling materials and supplies for an existingStratasys Machine. NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Stratasys, who is the only known sourcecapable of providing these unique supplies. Stratasys is the sole provider of suppliesfor this fused deposition modeling machine. The filament canisters, tips and othersupplies are manufactured by Stratasys. The design of the supplies are proprietary toStratasys. It would take substantial duplication of time and Government resources foranother company to offer similar supplies that would meet this requirement, which is noexpected to be recovered through competition. Sole Source authority is FAR 13.106. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon May 1, 2008. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and opencompetition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretionof the government.Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.An Ombudsman has been appointed.
