Request for Information on Safety Methods and Algorithm Measures of Effectiveness for Sense and Avoid

OSD recognizes that a key challenge to integrating unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System is a means for UAS to sense and avoid other aircraft. To better inform future sense and avoid (SAA) decisions, an OSD sponsored panel is currently requesting informational briefs on topics related to SAA safety substantiation methods and SAA algorithm measures of effectiveness (MOE). The panel plans to receive selected presentations on these topics during an Open Day Meeting at MITRE in McLean, VA Wednesday-Thursday 14-15 November 2012. The desired outcome of the Open Day Meeting is to inform OSD strategic decisions for the topics in this RFI through evaluation of the state of the art, awareness of ongoing science and research initiatives, identification of areas where industry and the research community desires government guidance, and promotion of collaboration and partnerships in the SAA technical community.
