Aqua-Lator Floating Surface Aerator by Siemens Industry Inc. Sole Source Justification

Yellowstone National Park is annoucing its intent to award a Sole Source Award to Seimans Industry Inc for a Aqua-Lator Floating Surface Aerator. Any vendor wanting to comment on the rationale for the sole source award shall email [email protected] no later than 5:00 PM Mountain Time on Tuesday August 7, 2012. 1. Nature and/or description of the item/service being procured and its intended use: Replace the burned out motor of the floating aerator at the wastewater plant. The lead aerator motor burned out and we are presently running on the backup. The aerator is needed to supply free oxygen to the wastewater process so micro organisms can break down wastewater matter. If there is not enough air in the aeration basin the sewage will go septic we will be in violation of the DEQ clean water act, the public health and safety at Old Faithful will be at risk. Additionally, the whole Old Faithful area will be complaining about the odor problem. 2. Explain: Seimens industry is the sole distributor for Aqua-Lator floating surface aerators. The motor for this floating aeration system is designed to fit only this floating base within the aeration system. To purchase another motor would result in major redesign and modification of this existing floating aeration platform It is a complex system and the cost and time involved to change the entire system would be very expensive and not to the government's advantage. 3. Market Research. Please explain the results or why one was not performed. State whether any other offers were received or anyone expressed interest: The Utility System Operators at the Old Faithful WasteWater Plant researched several other companies and found that replacing this 4011 -SF motormodule using the original company was the only cost effective solution.
