The Department of Veterans Affairs, VA Medical Center, Tacoma, WA intends to negotiate a commercial (FAR Part 12) Sole Source contract under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. The VA intends to award a contract to Phillips Medical Systems for technical software and hardware maintenance support. Philips is the manufacturer of the NT MRI and its software. Only the manufacturer of the software can provide this level of technical support. They have VA approved remote ability to access our MRI to run diagnostic software and reports for improved diagnostics and equipment uptime. They are the only vendor to support the software on the MRI and to provide the remote service. Utilizing another manufacturer would introduce unacceptable inefficiencies and expenses and would not be in the government's best interest. A justification for other than full and open competition is prepared in support of this acquisition. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE QUOTATIONS. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
