Conversion of AVTEX Rayon Cloth to Carbon Cloth for the Trident II Reentry Body Heatshield

The Strategic Systems Programs has awarded a sole source contract to HITCO Carbon Composites, Inc., to procure services to convert AVTEX Rayon Cloth to Carbon Cloth for the Trident II Reentry Body Heatshield. This objective will be accomplished through scouring the Rayon Cloth, converting the Rayon Cloth to Carbon Cloth, testing, and storing the purified Carbon Cloth. Hitco is the sole supplier of carbon-phenolic heatshields for the Navy's Mk4 and Mk5 reentry bodies for the Trident II.
