The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office 7, intends to negotiate a multi-year sole-source contract with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), 19 Hagwood Ave STE 505, Charleston, SC 29425-0001, on or around September 07, 2012 to provide "Complement Factor H Haplotypes and Smoking in Age-related Macular Degeneration" at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. The research associates supporting "Complement Factor H Haploypes and Smoking in Age-related Macular Degeneration" will perform the following duties: Highly specialized generation of transgenic construct, positive ES cells and transgenic mice Highly specialized generation of smoke-induced pathology Highly specialized induction of CNV in mice Administration of anesthesia and performing euthanasia Monitoring and evaluating the animal for induction of CNV Tissue collection and biochemical assays and immunohistochemistry Biochemical assays Maintenance of record/data books The Contractor possesses unique qualifications that require the use of the authority below. Research associates at MUSC have received specialized training in Complement Factor H Haplotypes and Smoke-induced Age-related Macular Degeneration and have been trained in the generation of transgenic mice that overexpress CR2-fH via transgene construction, ES Cell manipulation, and transgene introduction into host genome.
