Government’s Notice of Twelve-Month Extension of Performance by the Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) for TRICARE Claims Processing and Associated Customer Service under the Terms of the TRICARE Dual-Eligible Fiscal Intermediary Contract (TDEFIC).

The TDEFIC provides comprehensive health care claims processing, customer support and other associated administrative services on behalf of dual-eligible Medicare and TRICARE beneficiaries who receive services in the United States and its territories. The contractor processes over 59 million claims annually and responds to over 3 million beneficiary and provider inquiries a year. A new contractor would require a minimum of 12 months to complete the transition-in requirements given the startup requirements associated with staff recruiting and training, meeting the Personnel Security, System Security and connectivity requirements, as well as completing the required coordination with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Benefits Coordination and Recovery Center (BCRC) to receive secondary pay claims directly from Medicare. The current contractor, Wisconsin Physicians Service, is the only known contractor that is capable of providing these services within the needed time frame.
