B -- Request for Participation in Laboratory and Field Evaluation of Portal-Type Equipment for the Detection of Body-Borne Suicide Bombs

On behalf of the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Science and Technology Counter Measures Test Bed program (DHS S&T CMTB), Sandia National Laboratories is requesting information concerning commercial or near-commercial portal-type equipment for the detection of body-borne suicide bombs. The mechanism for detection can include (but is not limited to) millimeter wave (MMW) imaging, infrared (IR) imaging or terahertz (THz) imaging. Imaging techniques may be either passive or active. Technologies must provide rapid detection (i.e., 5 seconds or less). In order to participate in laboratory and field testing, equipment manufacturers must be willing to loan equipment to the DHS under a no-cost purchase order or similar agreement. Equipment must be available for laboratory and field testing for approximately 8-12 weeks beginning May 1, 2006. Equipment manufacturers must also be willing to provide technical support regarding system operation.
