Market research is being conducted to determine the availability of Alaska yellow cedar lumber. The Chugach National Forest has identified yellow cedar as the desired material for picnic tables, kiosks and other uses where the elements are exposed to the weather and are also in contact with people. The reason for this decision is because the wood is easy to work with, is very durable, does not require special treatments or chemicals and weathers to a beautiful gray. The purpose of this market research is to determine if there are any seasonal variations in availability or supply of lumber, any lead times required for delivery, if there is an optimal time to order or if there is any minimum quantity for ordering.
