Fabrication and Installation of Shutter Drive Access Platforms on Gemini North Enclosure

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. ("AURA"), acting as the operator of the Gemini Observatory, is seeking a contractor to fabricate and install two steel shutter drive access platforms on the exterior of the enclosure dome of the Gemini North observatory located on the summit of Mauna Kea, Big Island, Hawaii, at approximately 13,800 feet above sea level. Each shutter drive access platform will consist of an L-shaped platform approximately 16 ft long x 3 ft wide mounted to the outside of the enclosure approximately 70 ft above grade. The platforms would be fabricated and test assembled off-site, and then transported to the site and installed with both welding and bolts using a crane to lift the pre-assembled sections into place. A Request for Proposal (RFP) for this procurement will be issued by AURA in June 2012 to those firms that submit a request to receive the RFP by 13 June 2012.
